When you move to Florida with your children, you will have to make choices about their schooling.
Public school only starts from the Kindergarten year, which is between 5 and 6 years old. Before the Kindergarten year, children either stay with their parents, are looked after by nannies or go to private schools called Day Care.
• In Florida, you must be 5 years old before September to enter Kindergarten.
• For the education of your children, you will have to choose between the public and the private education system.
Among the public schools you will find several options:
• Sector schools, which enroll children according to their address
• Charter schools, which arrange admission for students, usually on a lottery basis
• Magnet schools, which offer enriched programs (languages, music, sports, etc.)
• Many public schools offer so-called "Gifted" programs, which provide accelerated and more in-depth programs for "gifted" children; others offer bilingual sections.
• For Charter and Magnet schools, enrollment generally begins very early, around October of the year prior to school entry.
• As far as private schools are concerned, there are many in the United States and the criteria and application dates are specific to each of them.
